Terms of service

The deal between you and subnethistory.com, without the fog.

Last updated 2026-08-06

The short version
  • Search and the API are free today. We may introduce paid plans later, with notice and a free tier we intend to keep.
  • Play fair with the limits. Rate limits are the only gate; do not work around them.
  • No guarantees. Reports merge third-party sources, so verify before you act on them.
  • Your queries feed the dataset. Using the service means you are fine with lookups being logged and used as described in the privacy policy.

1. The service

subnethistory.com answers lookups about IP addresses, prefixes and autonomous systems: registration records, routing history, sampling verdicts and derived signals, merged from public sources and our own archive. By using the site or the API you accept these terms.

2. The API and pricing

  • The API is currently free, without an account, subject to fair rate limits.
  • We may introduce paid plans, API keys, or change the shape of the free tier in the future. If we do, we will announce it on the site with reasonable notice before anything stops being free.
  • Rate limits exist so the service stays fast for everyone. Rotating IPs, keys or other tricks to evade them ends your right to use the service.

3. Acceptable use

  • Use the data for lawful purposes: research, network operations, security, due diligence.
  • Do not misrepresent our data as your own measurement, and do not bulk-mirror the archive to resell it as it stands.
  • Attribution is appreciated but not required for reasonable use of individual reports.

4. Data and accuracy

Reports are assembled from third-party sources (registries, routing collectors, reputation feeds) plus our own observations and labels. Sources disagree, lag, and make mistakes; confidence scores are estimates, not verdicts. Everything is provided as is, so verify independently before you block, buy, accuse or decide.

5. Your queries

Lookups you run are logged and become an input to our dataset: what we fetch, re-check and archive next. Details live in the privacy policy, and using the service means you consent to that.

6. Availability and changes

This is a young service. Endpoints, response shapes, limits and features can change or be discontinued. We version the API and announce breaking changes when practical. These terms can change too, and the date at the top is authoritative.

7. Liability

To the maximum extent the law allows, we are not liable for damages arising from use of the service or reliance on its data, including decisions made on reports, downtime, or data errors. If your jurisdiction does not allow that, our total liability is capped at what you paid us in the last 12 months, which today is nothing.
